James ""J.R."" Ryan
THROOP - James 'J.R.' Ryan, 65 of N. Division Street Rd., passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning (October 15, 2013) surrounded by his loving family and in the comfort of his home.
Calling hours will be held this Monday from 4 to 7 pm with a service to immediately follow in the Pettigrass Funeral Home, 196 Genesee St., Auburn.
Due to J.R.'s love of Motocross, in lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to be made in his memory to "USMX Motocross", 6948 N. Division Street Rd., Auburn, N.Y. 13021.
He was born on November 15, 1947 in Seneca Falls, N.Y. the son of the late Louis and Harriet Deming Ryan and had been an area resident his whole life. 'J.R.' as he was affectionately known by his family and friends was an employee for Nucor and retired from McQuay International after many years of service. He owned and operated J.R.'s Country Club in Seneca Falls for several years. Jim's passion was his band, which he started several years ago and was the lead vocalist. The 'J.R.' Band played many different local bars and restaurants and put on many benefits in the county. Jim was later named in the Cortland Country Music Park Hall of Fame in 1993 for his exceptional singing talents. J.R. also loved watching his two grandsons race in Motocross and cherished all the time spent with each of his five grandchildren. He also loved nature and especially the deer in his back yard. He would feed them every day and enjoyed watching them while sipping on an occasional Pabst Blue Ribbon.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Nancy Dyson Ryan of Throop; two daughters, Tammy (David) Dix of Elbridge, Crista (Pat) Baliva of Montezuma; five grandchildren, Travis LaCroix, Brandon Ryan, Joshua Baliva, Brooke Baliva, Cody Dix, also two special men Bob Bell, Buzzy Dyson along with several other nieces and nephews.
