Donald L. Van Buskirk, 86, of Halvorsen Road, Portageville, died Dec. 24, 2013 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw.
He was born Dec. 28, 1926 in Hume, N.Y., son of the late Melvin and Margaret Hull Van Buskirk. Donald was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a medical corpsman and served in both World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion and attended the New Beginnings Church in Hermitage. Donald owned and operated Carol’s Farm Market in Portageville from 1978 to 1996 and he served as Town Justice for the Town of Genesee Falls from 1971 to 1988. He loved country and western and square dance music.
Donald was predeceased by his wife, Nina J. Van Buskirk who died in 2009.
Surviving are his daughters, Carol Getty, of Portageville, and Doreen (Roger) Henry, of Weedsport; his grandchildren, Lisa (Scott) Speta, of Fillmore, Sara (Justin) Klitzke, of Nebraska, William John Getty III, of Washington, Jennifer (Jeff) McEwan, of New Jersey, Robert Buckland, of Lockport, Robin Buckland, of Lockport, Cheryl Niece, of Buffalo, Michael Guy, Rhonda Guy and Jeffrey Guy; several great-grandchildren; his brother, Forrest Hamer, of Belfast; his sisters, Avanell Stocum, of Belfast, and Mary Greek, of Black Creek; a special aunt, Crystal (Thomas) Swanger, of Portageville, and his cousins, Vonnie and Harlan Morse, of Portageville. He was the father of the late Donald Lee and Ronald Guy.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday, Dec. 30 at Harmon-Watson Funeral Home, 35 N. Main St., Castile, where a service will be held immediately following calling hours at noon. Private burial will be in Alger Cemetery, Hume.
