Burres R. “Rusty” Rider, age 69, of Painted Post, passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at
Robert Packer Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 25, 1947 in Penn Yan, the son of the late Harry and Flora Mae (Tighe) Rider.
Rusty was a loving, caring, and generous companion, father, grandfather, and brother. He enjoyed camping, driving racecar, attending tractor pulls, and he was an avid NASCAR fan especially Dale Earnhardt Sr. Rusty was always in the mood for a big bowl of pasta and meatballs. He retired from Corning Inc where he worked as a boiler operator.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Alberta Colegrove of Painted Post, his children, Linda (Jim) Cramer of Penn Yan, Russell Rider of South Carolina, Donald Rider of Coopers Plains, and Kelly Wire of Wisconsin, step son, Timothy (Heidi Shephard) Colegrove of Beaver Dams, siblings, Art (Barbara) Rider of Dundee, Phil (Carla) Rider of Dundee, Teresa (Terry) Trank of Dundee, Michael (Karen) Rider of Dalton, PA, Vicky (Paul) VanHorn of Dundee, and Connie (Bruce) Barrett of Burdett, fifteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Rusty was predeceased by his brothers, Harold and Fred Rider, step children, Roger Colgrove, Diane Fitzwater, and Pamela Hults, step daughter-in-law, Linda Colegrove, and great granddaughter, Luna Jean.
Family and friends are invited to call at Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney St., Corning, on Friday, January 6, 2017 from 12:00pm to 2:00pm. A celebration of Rusty’s life will follow there at 2:00pm. Burial will take place at Coopers Plains Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
