JOHNSTOWN - Donna L. Capone, 68, of Johnstown, N.Y. passed away on her birthday, Monday, April 30, at Ellis Hospital surrounded by her beloved husband, daughter, and sister.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Church of the Holy Spirit, 149 S. Main Street, Gloversville, at 11 a.m. on Saturday (May 5). There will be no prior calling hours. Arrangements are by the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, Johnstown, NY. Interment will take place at a later date at St. Mary's Cemetery in Waterloo.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be sent in Donna's memory to The Shrine of Our Lady of Martyrs (Auriesville), 136 Shrine Road, Fultonville, N.Y. 12072 or St. Labre Indian School, Ashland, Mont. 59004.
Born in Auburn, NY, on April 30, 1944, she was the daughter of Louis J. and Martha A. (Errico) Pioli and grew up in Seneca Falls, N.Y. Mrs. Capone was a 1962 graduate of Mynderse Academy and she attended the former Auburn Community College. She was employed by Sylvania in Seneca Falls for several years. Donna loved to travel and visited Africa and Europe with her aunt and uncle in her earlier years, as well as spending time in Hawaii and nearly every state in the US. On April 12, 1975, Donna married Leonard Capone of Waterloo, N.Y. They spent most of their married life in Sodus, N.Y. Donna was a devoted wife and mother and she worked for many years offering child care from her home. She continued her passion for travel, enjoying years of camping trips and other family vacations with her husband and daughter. In 2008 Donna and her family relocated to Johnstown to be closer to extended family. Donna's greatest joy in life was her family and she adored her husband and her daughter, Melissa. She was an avid NY Yankees and Buffalo Bills fan and a collector of angels and porcelain dolls. She also inherited her mother's passion for crossword puzzles. Donna was a kindhearted and sensitive soul who enjoyed helping others. There wasn't a malicious bone in her body, and she brought much love to those who knew her.
Along with her husband, Donna is survived by her daughter, Melissa Ann Capone, her father, Louis J. Pioli, her sister, Lou Ann Pioli, brothers-in-law Ralph (Vivian) Capone and Joseph (Gina) Capone, special niece and nephew, Kirstin Sparrow and Kevin Hunt, her aunts and uncle, Mark and Joanna Errico and Rose Errico, dear friends Dan and Laurie Fitzgerald and their children Julie Fitzgerald and Heather Pat, as well as several cousins, nephews, nieces, great nieces and nephews and many friends.
She was predeceased by her mother, Martha Pioli, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Mary Capone, and several aunts and uncles.
