PENN YAN - Cynthia Wheeler Chapman, 63, passed away peacefully in her home on May 7, 2012 surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Calling hours will be held from 10 to noon on Saturday (May 12) immediately followed by a celebration of Cindy's life at Weldon Funeral Home, 102 E. Main Street, Penn Yan.

Cindy was born December 16, 1948, in Penn Yan, the daughter of Stanley and Rosemary (Hoban) Wheeler. She was employed by Yates County Public Health since 1989 most recently as the special children's service coordinator. She was also a former member and board chair for FLACRA, the past president of the VFW post # 745 Ladies Auxiliary, and a dedicated member of Alcoholics Anonymous for the past 27 years. Cindy's hobbies included cooking, gardening and boating. She was also an avid volunteer in the community. Besides spending time with her family Cindy was happiest when she was doing for others.
She is survived by her loving husband, Patrick Chapman; daughters, Christy Straka and Kerry (Rob) Jones; a son Matthew (Laura) Hinkal, and Michael Heather Chapman; and seven treasured grandchildren; parents, Stanley and Rosemary Wheeler; brothers, Steven of Penn Yan, Michael of Wash., and Randy of N.C., as well as several nieces and nephews. Cindy would also like to acknowledge special friends Herbie and Lauren Snyder, Lynn Canfield, and Mary Griffiths.
