Born in Trumansburg on February 2, 1935, Gordon was the son of Edward R. and Helene (Dill) Powell. He married his sweetheart, Peggy Westervelt, on June 30, 1956, and their love for each other never wavered. Gordon was a lifelong resident of Interlaken, where he was a farmer and later a trucker, although farming always remained his passion. His work was first on his mind, but his family was always first in his heart. After Gordon retired, he thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, working in the yard and garden, and collecting model tractors, trucks, and airplanes. He always had a story to share with those around him, whether friend or stranger, and many strangers soon became good friends.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Peggy; one daughter, Deborah A. Powell of Interlaken; two sons, Kenneth E. (Aura Lea) Powell of Yatesville, Ga. and Michael G. (Dawn) Powell of Cumming, Ga.; nine grandchildren, Scott, Adam, Matthew, Rebecca, Joshua, Nathan, Seth, Katlin, and Ryan; seven great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Jean Powell; one special nephew and friend, four nieces, and many friends.
