AUBURN | Thomas M. Kirkwood Jr., 92, of Stryker Homes, Auburn, died Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at Van Duyn Nursing Home, Syracuse. Born Oct. 15, 1919, in Detroit, Mich., he was the son of Thomas M. and Esther Kirkwood Sr. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during World War II, seeing action in the Pacific Theater. He had previously been employed as a machinist with the Firth Carpet Co., as a sales manager with Onondaga Supply, an automotive parts distributor, and summers at the Seward Mansion in Auburn. Tom was a past president of the Auburn 700 Bowling Club, Chapter 23. He was also known to be one of the biggest New York Yankees fans in Auburn. Mr. Kirkwood is survived by his son, Thomas M. Kirkwood III and his wife, Patricia, of Camillus; his sister, Alice Sharp, of Auburn; his four grandchildren, Krista Kirkwood, of Baldwinsville, Kevin and Ann Marie Kirkwood, of Syracuse, Nick Kirkwood, of Liverpool, and Renee Paddock of Savannah; a great-grandchild, Logan Paddock. Mr. Kirkwood was predeceased by a son, David Kirkwood in 1996; and a sister, Margaret Meyers. Private graveside services will be held in St. Mary's Cemetery, Dewitt. There will be no calling hours. Donations in memory of Thomas M. Kirkwood Jr. may be made to the Hospice organization of your choice. Funeral arrangements are with White Chapel Funeral Home, 197 South St. Auburn.
