PENN YAN - Leonard Lerch, 68, passed away at his home on Thursday (July 5, 2012).
Friends are invited to call at Weldon Funeral Home Saturday from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Services and burial will be private.
It has been suggested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be directed to Yates County Humane Society, 1216 Rte. 14A, Penn Yan, N.Y. 14527.
King was born in Orlando, Fla. on July 12, 1943. He was a graduate of Penn Yan Academy, Class of 1962 and later graduated from Erie Tech in Buffalo. He served with the U.S. Marines from 1962 to 1966 and was a member of the American Legion. A civil engineer, he retired from the NYS Dept. of Transportation in 2002 after more then 30 years of service. He was a member of the NRA and had been a Boy Scout Leader. King loved the outdoors, loved to build and work with his hands and, most of all, he loved spending time with his kids and grandkids.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years Marlene (Morrison) Lerch; two sons Michael (Kathy) Lerch, Shamokin, Penn. and Brian Lerch, Penn Yan; a daughter Regina (David) Clary, Ithaca; his grandchildren Emily & Collin Clary, Robert & Brandon, Bennett, Jared Lerch and Samantha, Matthew & Abigail Lerch; his sister Mary Carol Machak, Olean; brother-in-law Elden Morrison; sister-in-law Shirley Fullagar; his mother-in-law Amanda Morrison; and several nieces and nephews.
