Waterloo - William Paul Bowman Jr., age 88, died peacefully on (July 6, 2012) at the Seneca Nursing and Rehabili tation Center in Waterloo, N.Y. Former ly of Pitts ford, N.Y.
Friends are invited to call Tuesday (July 10) from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Patrick Funeral Home, 26 West Main Street, Clifton Springs, N.Y. Funeral services will immediately follow at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Uni versity of Rochester or Kettering University in Bill's memory.
Bill was born in Evans ville, Indiana on Dec. 16, 1923, to William P. and Margaret Bowman. He graduated from General Motors Institute, now Kettering University, in 1948. During WWII he proudly served in the US Navy stationed aboard the USS Wakulla in the Pacific for two years. Bill received his MBA from the U. of Rochester in 1965.
He worked for General Motors for 45 years retiring as Chief Engineer at GM's Rochester Products division in 1986. Bill was instrumental in building the Lee Road Plant in 1977, renovating Tusca loosa in 1978, building Sioux City in 1979 and DHQ in 1980. His last major project was overseeing the development of the European engineering facility in Luxembourg in 1984. In his retirement years Bill kept busy by helping his son-in-law Adrian Grammar establish Grammar-Gates Engine Shop in Geneva, N.Y. Bill will be remembered as a kind and loving soul by all who knew him.
Survivors include, his children, Jeanne (Mel) Wess of Shrewsbury, Mass., Gary Bowman of Cuba, N.Y., Carol (Adrian) Grammar of Geneva, N.Y. and David Bowman of Frankfurt, Germany; grand children, John Bow man, Gary (Yamilka) Bowman, Wendy (Derek) Marcello, Candice (Chad) Johanson, Dorian (Shanelle) Bowman and Roslyn Grammar; six great-grandsons, Jordan Bowman, Asher and Saunder Marcello, Drew and Dean Johanson and Tyler Bowman.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Rosemary; and his brothers, Charles and Kenneth.
