Louis M. Karpel

Louis M. Karpel MENDON - Louis M. Karpel passed away on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at 92 years of age. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Phyllis; parents, Max and Celia; brother, Ben; and sisters Ethel and Rose. He is survived by his children, Barry (Joyce) Karpel of New Port Richey, Fla., Pamela (Stuart) Gluckman of Mendon and Gale (Stephen) Scherer of Pittsford; and granddaughter, Jenna Scherer of New York City. Lou proudly served his country as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War II. He owned and operated homes for mentally disabled adults and patented the "Heimlich Helper" medical device. He was a champion handball player. Lou will be remembered as a devoted husband and father and caring friend. We will never forget our Dad's devoted friends, Bill Opperman and Judy Dreesen. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Michelle Sterman, PA and the nurses and staff of the third floor, east wing of F.F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua for the compassionate care and support given to our Dad and our family. All are invited to attend his funeral service today (Tuesday) at noon in the all seasons chapel at White Haven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lustgarten Foundation (www.lustgarten.org) for Pancreatic Cancer Research. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.MillerFuneralHomes.com.
