Norma (Sweeney) McWilliams Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother CANANDAIGUA - Norma (Sweeney) McWilliams, age 92, passed away on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at Highland Hospital, with her family by her side, after a brief illness. She is survived by nine children, Joe (Debbie) McWilliams, Nancy (Jim) Humphreys, Regina (Ted) Russell, Tim (Mary) McWilliams, Paula (Nick) LeGrett, Mark (Jill) McWilliams, Kevin (Cathy) McWilliams, Martha (Keith) McIntyre and Mary McWilliams; 24 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Edward P. McWilliams in 1994. Mrs. McWilliams was born in Middletown, N.Y., and was the daughter of John and Maude (Perry) Sweeney. She attended Middletown schools and was a graduate of Middletown High School. Mrs. McWilliams graduated in 1941 from Long Island College Hospital School of Nursing in Brooklyn, N.Y., where she earned her registered nurse degree. She worked for a short time at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. Mrs. McWilliams enlisted in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps and achieved the rank of second lieutenant. She met her future husband Edward while in the Army. They were married in 1944 in Goldsboro, N.C. They settled in the Canandaigua area in 1946, where her husband opened his dental practice. Mrs. McWilliams was a busy homemaker, raising nine children. She was a member of St. Mary's Church, the Century Club and an Ontario ARC board member for 37 years. Mrs. McWilliams enjoyed dancing, playing bridge and spending time with her family. Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home Inc., 47 N. Main St., Canandaigua. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 95 N. Main St., Canandaigua. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canandaigua.
