WEEDSPORT | Michael J. Glowacki, 69, of Weedsport, loving husband, father, grandfather and lifelong Yankees fan, passed away unexpectedly Jan. 7, 2013. The son of Harry and Margaret (Mendzef) Glowacki; when asked his birthdate, always responded â€œChristmas 1943.â€? Upon graduating from Auburn West High, Mike enlisted in the Navy and served during the Vietnam War. He then joined the Coast Guard Reserves, serving a combined total of 42 years before retiring. One of his favorite assignments was patrolling Cross Lake, where he would stop to visit his family. Mike attended IBM data processing school and worked at General Electric for 10 years, before switching careers to become a U.S. Rural Letter Carrier in Auburn for 33 years. He loved people and found his calling, serving patrons on his route by fixing a lawnmower, bringing milk or just chatting. Civically-minded, Mike engaged with his community as a life member of the Weedsport Fire Department, treasurer of the First Presbyterian Church, a Cayuga County Election Inspector, member of the Weedsport Lions Club and the Town of Brutus Planning Board. He officiated high school volleyball and softball games and channeled his inner Billy Martin, coaching Weedsport Little League teams for 15 years. Mike enjoyed an active retirement by working as an usher at the Syracuse University Carrier Dome and in the transportation group at the E. John Gavras Center. He discovered his love for travel on an Alaskan cruise, where he met a circle of dear friends whom he joined for further adventures in the U.S., Europe, and China. Mike is survived by his wife of 46 years, Donna; his son, Michael (Helen), of Skaneateles; daughter, Amy, of Mason, N.H. and his cherished grandchildren, Phoebe, Hope and Parker. He is also survived by his sisters, Carol Lauzon, Peg Bellnier and Nancy Diego; his sisters-in-law, Patricia Oswald, Linda Root and Katherine Peters and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at the White Chapel Funeral Home, 2719 Erie Drive, Weedsport. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at the First United Methodist Church, 2744 E Brutus Street, Weedsport.
