OVID - Theodore H. "Ted" Taggerty, age 79, longtime resident of County Road 139, died with his family at his side, on Monday at Geneva General Hospital following a brief illness.
The family will receive friends on Thursday (January 24) from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 Main Street, Ovid. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Bart Minson, OFMCap on at 11:00 a.m. on Friday (January 25), at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Ovid. Prayers of committal will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Ted was born in Ovid on November 24, 1933, a son of the late Thomas and Teresa (Tomzak) Taggerty. He was a graduate of Romulus High School and an active parishioner of Holy Cross Catholic Church. He retired from Willard Psychiatric Center in 1988, where he had worked as a therapy aide for more than 35 years. Ted was an avid gardener and respectful of nature, his many animals and his surroundings. He truly enjoyed the pine grove on the 5 acres surrounding his home, and many family memories were made there.
He is survived by his children, Mark Taggerty of Ovid, Mary (Rick) Perkins of Seneca Falls, Andy (Kelly Ann) Taggerty of Rochester, Kim (George Wethey) of Auburn and Kelly Taggerty of Newark; his grandchildren, Ryan, Kelly, Cassie, Jared, Tara, Shelby, Jeff and Brenna; and four great-grandchildren; his siblings, George Taggerty of Naples, N.Y., William Taggerty of Guam, Herman Taggerty of Pennsylvania, and Teresa Langley of Penn Yan; and a family friend, Diane Richardson.
Ted was preceded in death by his brothers, Johnny, Danny; and a sister, Agnes.
