OVID - Larry C. Caslin, age 61, of 7410 Route 414, died at his home with his sons at his side, on Wednesday (March 13, 2013) after a long and courageous fight with cancer.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 on Friday, (March 15) at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 So. Main Street in Ovid. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday (March 16) at the funeral home, with prayers of committal at Ovid Union Cemetery.

Larry was born in Seneca Falls, N.Y. on February 12, 1952, the only son of the late Clyde and Lucille (Alger) Caslin. Larry received his bachelors degree from Empire State College, and had a long work history with New York State. He had worked at Willard Psychiatric Center, Hutchings Treatment Center in Syracuse, and returned to Willard Drug Treatment Center, retiring as a senior parole officer in May 2011. Larry had been a very active member of the Ovid community, coaching little league, serving on the South Seneca Board of Education for 6 years, and on the board of Elizabeth Cady Stanton Children's Center in Willard. Larry closely followed college sports, and was a diehard fan of Notre Dame football, UNC basketball and the 49'ers. He loved being outdoors and treasured his summers with the family at the Elm Beach Cottage.
He is survived by his sons, Jonathan Caslin of Ovid, Nicolas (Kerri) Caslin of Webster; his sisters, Phyllis Knapp of Port Jervis, N.Y. and Sandy Caslin of Burbank, Calif.; his mother-in-law, June Kenyon of Ovid; and a large extended family.
Larry was preceded in death by his loving wife, Brenda in 2004.
