A flash mob broke out just before the start of the Waterloo Memorial Day Parade.

Jim Lewis

2013 Welles Award Honoree Jim Lewis rides on the float with other Waterloo veterans.

When Jim returned to Waterloo after his service in Korea, there was no welcome home parade, no ceremony. He set out to change that. When Waterloo was recognized as the Birthplace of Memorial Day in 1966, Lewis served as the Memorial Day Parade Chairman, a job he continued on with for the next 40 years! Lewis has also helped in the fight to retain the Canandaigua Veterans Administration hospital, established the local chapter of the Koran War Veterans Association, served on the Waterloo Board of Education, and has been honored for his work with the Boy Scouts of America.
