The local hockey teams wrapped up the 2016 portion of their schedules on New Year's Eve. In the NHL, the Buffalo Sabres suffered a season-series sweep by the Boston Bruins for the first time in franchise history, dropping the back end of a home-and-home, 3-1. Jack Eichel scored the only Buffalo goal.
In the AHL, the Rochester Amerks doubled up the Utica Comets, 6-3, with Evan Rodriguez and Cole Schneider each netting a pair. And in a track meet, the Syracuse Crunch topped Saint John's, 7-5, with Auburn native Jeremy Morin pouring in a pair of goals.

On to the NFL, as the New York Giants close out the regular season at rival Washington, kickoff at 4:25 on Finger Lakes News Radio. The Giants are locked in to the 5th seed in the NFC, their opponent in the wild-card round yet to be determined. Meanwhile, the Buffalo Bills wrap up their disappointing season at the New York Jets at 1 o'clock, in the head coaching debut of Anthony Lynn.
