One of the men hoping to become Cayuga County’s next sheriff has received the support of the union representing those working in the office’s custody and civil divisions.
The Sheriff’s Employees Association of Cayuga County has announced it’s endorsing Rob Franklin for sheriff. The union, the largest within the sheriff’s office, represents the men and women serving in the office’s custody and civil divisions.
In its decision, the union said Franklin has “demonstrated a strong commitment to professional leadership, accountability, and the fair and ethical administration of justice,” adding that he has “consistently shown support for officer safety, training, and operational professionalism, while also recognizing the importance of transparency and public trust.”
Franklin said, “It is an incredible honor to accept this endorsement from the Sheriff Employees’ Association of Cayuga County, which represents both the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office Custody and Civil Division employees. I look forward to continuing to partner with these great men and women to provide professional and dedicated service to the community.”
Franklin is running to succeed Sheriff Brian Schenck, who announced he will not seek reelection in 2026. He, along with Chris Major, is vying for the endorsements of the Republican and Conservative parties.
