The clerk of the Village of Port Byron has pleaded guilty to a felony gun charge stemming from an October investigation into homemade firearms.
The Citizen reports 52-year-old Patricia Ewald pleaded guilty to criminal possession of a firearm, a Class E felony. She is scheduled to be sentenced later this month and is expected to receive five years of probation.
Ewald was arrested on October 24 after investigators say deputies found unserialized, self-manufactured pistols at her home in the Town of Mentz. Her husband, 55-year-old Eric Ewald, was arrested three days later on the same charge. His case is still pending in court.
Now that Patricia Ewald’s case has been resolved, the village board will likely discuss her status as the appointed village clerk during an Executive Session at its meeting on Monday night.
