The Penn Yan Fire Department is reporting a busy and productive year, responding to hundreds of calls for service throughout 2025 while continuing training, public education, and community support efforts.
According to department officials, firefighters responded to a total of 326 alarms during the year. That total included 15 structure fires, 29 emergency medical calls such as CPR, AED use, and lift assists, and 41 motor vehicle accidents.
Crews were also dispatched to 61 hazardous condition calls involving issues such as gas leaks, carbon monoxide alarms, and downed or damaged electrical lines. In addition, firefighters responded to 107 automatic alarms triggered by fire detection systems.
The department provided mutual aid to neighboring communities 20 times during the year and received mutual aid assistance eight times.
In total, members of the Penn Yan Fire Department contributed 12,618 hours in 2025. That figure includes time spent on emergency calls, training drills, meetings, fire prevention activities, and post-incident cleanup.
Fire officials say the numbers reflect not only the level of activity in the community, but also the ongoing commitment of the department’s volunteer members.
Department leaders thanked the firefighters for their dedication and encouraged community members who are interested in serving to consider joining the fire service.
Officials say volunteers play a critical role in ensuring the department can continue to protect life and property in Penn Yan and the surrounding area.
