After 28 years leading prosecutions in Schuyler County, District Attorney Joseph Fazzary has retired, leaving a legacy of dedication to justice and community service.
Fazzary, a lifelong Schuyler County resident, began his career in the District Attorney’s Office in 1992 and worked closely with local law enforcement throughout his tenure. On Tuesday, current and retired members of the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Department, Watkins Glen Police Department, and New York State Police honored him with a law enforcement walkout ceremony at the District Attorney’s Office.
“It has truly been an honor and privilege for me to serve the residents of Schuyler and many of the surrounding counties, as well as the People of the State of New York for all these years,” Fazzary said earlier this year. “The Southern Tier is extremely fortunate to have the law enforcement professionals it has. They are all well-trained and work hand in hand to make our region a safe place to live.”
Over his career, Fazzary prosecuted homicides, sexual assaults, burglaries, arson, and larcenies, and served as a special prosecutor in multiple counties. He also argued appeals in New York State appellate courts and contributed to law enforcement training and education throughout the Southern Tier.
Outside the office, Fazzary has been active in the community, coaching youth sports, serving on boards, and educating students on topics such as bullying, sexting, and violence in relationships. He also founded the Justice Center of the Southern Tier, providing comprehensive support for victims and survivors of crime.
