The Humane Society of Schuyler County has received a $75,000 grant from the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) to support compliance with New York State’s new animal protection laws.
The funding will help the organization meet requirements under the Companion Animal Standards Act, which took effect in December of 2025. The law establishes uniform care standards for animal shelters and rescue organizations, including mandatory licensing, inspections, and enforceable daily care requirements.
According to the Humane Society, the grant will be used to upgrade its heating and ventilation system to meet the new law’s specifications, which require animal care facilities to maintain temperatures between 60 and 80 degrees.
ASPCA grant awards ranged from $20,000 to $75,000.
“We are thrilled to be a recipient of this generous grant funding,” said Board President Kimberly Manning. “This funding will help us be in full compliance with the capital requirements of the new standards and allow us to continue providing a high standard of care for the animals who come to us in need.”
