Donald Wasman

Donald Robert Wasman, 82, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was born on May 24, 1943, in Honesdale, Pennsylvania. He grew up in Port Jervis, New York and attended college in Middletown, New York.

As an adult, Donald settled in the Finger Lakes region, where he began a career in sales with Sears, Roebuck and Co. He later shifted his focus to flowers with Newark Florist, Inc., and ultimately ended his career as the owner of Doc's Gardens. Donald was a member of the Elks Lodge.

Donald was an avid outdoorsman, a passion that began with his love of the Delaware River as a child. He enjoyed fishing-especially ice fishing in the winter-and took great pride in his hunting camp, which he built with the help of family and friends. Donald always preferred the scenic route when traveling, even if it doubled the trip time. He truly took the time to embrace the journey. Whether you knew him for years or had just met him, his famous line in later years became, "I like you," which brought a smile to the faces of many.

Donald is survived by his wife of 32 years, Marie (Schaffer) Wasman; his sister, Janet Mahoney; his sons, Glenn Wasman (Craig Fraser) and Scott (Nancy) Wasman; his daughter, Jennifer (Vincent) La Piana; his grandsons, Trevor Wasman (Taylor Carter) and Marshall Wasman; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Martha Wasman, and his brother-in-law, Kirk Mahoney.

Friends and family are invited to call on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Schulz-Pusateri Funeral Home, 103 Maple Court, Newark, NY 14513. A memorial service will follow at the funeral home, with burial in Newark Cemetery.

The family requests that memorial contributions in Donald's name be made to the Alzheimer's Association or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
