Auburn Man Arrested on Forgery Charge

SHARE NOW

An Auburn man has been arrested after investigators say he altered and cashed a stolen check from his employer.

Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck says 32-year-old Stephen Kilts was arrested on January 13 in connection with a forgery investigation in the Town of Aurelius. Kilts allegedly changed the name on a stolen check from his employer and then deposited it into his own checking account. Sheriff Schenck said the investigation provided enough evidence for deputies to charge him with Forgery in the Second Degree, a Class D felony.

Kilts was processed at the Sheriff’s Office and released on an appearance ticket.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
