A Geneseo man has been arrested after authorities say several animals were left without food or water for weeks at a home in Genesee County.

According to the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office, 31-year-old Emmett Antonio James Sherlock is accused of leaving seven cats and five dogs without proper food and water for approximately three weeks at a residence on Marsh Road in the town of Bethany, New York.

Investigators say the animals were recovered from the property and taken to the Genesee County Animal Shelter. Authorities also reported that some animals were found dead at the residence, also believed to have been left without food or water.

Sherlock was arrested on Monday and charged with 17 counts of overdriving, torturing, and injuring animals, including failure to provide proper sustenance.

He was processed at the Genesee County Jail and later released with an appearance ticket.
