U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has completed his annual tour of all 62 New York State counties, marking a record 27th consecutive year visiting every county across the state.
Schumer wrapped up this year’s tour with a stop in Columbia County, where he highlighted efforts to support Upstate dairy farmers and strengthen nutrition programs in schools. He first pledged during his initial Senate campaign to visit every New York county each year and has continued the tradition throughout his tenure, becoming the first New York public official to do so.
“Traveling to every corner of the Empire State, meeting with New Yorkers from every walk of life, it’s what energizes me. Every year, I am reminded of why I do this tour. Every person I meet, every story stays with me and inspires my daily work in Washington,” said Senator Schumer. “I’ve always said, ‘Senators who stay in Washington and never return home are simply not doing their job.’ This year, more than ever before, visiting all 62 counties pushed me to fight even harder to help lower costs for families, protect healthcare, and deliver for New York. That is why you can always find me mixing and mingling in every crowd from Buffalo to Brooklyn to hear directly from people about what is important to them. There’s still so much work to be done – I can’t wait to get back on the road visiting all 62 counties again next year — listening to voters and delivering for New Yorkers.”
Schumer said the tour helps him stay connected to communities statewide and shapes his legislative priorities in Washington, including efforts to lower costs for families, protect health care, expand broadband access, and support job creation.
Over the past year, Schumer cited securing federal funding for infrastructure projects, economic development initiatives, manufacturing expansions, transportation improvements, health care investments, and broadband access in communities across Western New York, the Finger Lakes, Central New York, the Southern Tier, the Capital Region, the North Country, Long Island, and the Hudson Valley.
Schumer said visiting communities firsthand remains essential to effectively representing New Yorkers and plans to continue the statewide tour again next year.
